7 Actionable Tips to Get More Comments on Your Blog

Posted By |

In the parallel universe of blogging, it’s nearly impossible to find a happy-blogger. One might be sad due to his/her traffic figures, one for his PR, another one for Alexa, or due to his/her earnings. There’s simply no end to worries of a blogger.

It might be due to the fact that a blog is determined by various factors. Blog ‘X’ might have got a 10k Alexa rank, but got a low PR; i.e. the same blog ‘X’ might be professional for Alexa-concerned people, but not in front of PR-concerned people.
But, surprisingly there’s one thing that every blogger wants. It’s none other than COMMENTS! (No surprise, title speaks that!)
After all, watching top-blogs like BoostBlogTraffic and QuickSprout getting hundreds of comments instantly does influence us.
On one hand, there are many blogs getting barely a comment or two, and there’s big blogs sweeping hundreds of comments. Why that’s for?
You did give your valuable time and lots of hard work and efforts, so what are YOU doing WRONG? Are you missing anything BIG?

Don’t worry, I've just stepped into Geek Engage only to help you develop an awesome, comment-prone blog and get lots of comments on your blog!

1. Make it easy to Comment

The foremost reason--as  to why you get so little comments.
Just after the end of the article, there’s one author’s bio, then social buttons, then ‘You might like’ widget, then Ad-unit and finally a place to comment. If you want to focus more on getting comments, you need to cut out rest of the things.
You can put your ad-unit in a different place, social buttons on the sidebar and rather than ‘You might like’ you can start interlinking between your posts. You would save lots of space.

It’s all up to way, you can manage your widgets in any way, but make sure that it doesn't affect the page-speed and design factors. Overall, to get more comments, you need to emphasis more on the space available for commenting than anything else.

2. Comment on others’ blogs

Yes, you heard it right: Comment on others’ blogs. Leave back long revelant comments on others blog (after reading the post, of course!).

Didn't understand?

Remember, when your friends lend you a pen or a pencil, you did feel  being helped and wanted to help them again in the same way, isn't it? Similarly, putting comments on your friend’s blog might influence their decision to comment back on your blog. Though people are getting selfish, day-by-day!

3. Get it Promoted through the Authorities

In blogging, there’s rule of thumb for blogging: 80:20 blogging. This states that, 20% importance should be given to content, and 80% to promotion.

Getting a piece of content promoted by an authority figure or website might even  be considered as getting platinum! But, once you get your article promoted through them, not only  would you  get huge amount of traffic but also more comments simply by the fact  that a top-figure has surely not referred to your website without any reason.

4. Offer them something

You might be doing link building for your blog as it’s important for both SEO and ranking factors. Your Alexa rank directly depends upon links.
Feel glad when you get to comment on some others’ blog and get backlinks? In the same way, your blog might also be undergoing some link-building process by some other blogger.
People are happier to comment down their views when they get free backlinks (after all, who doesn't want that?) You can use commentluv since it’s easy to us and most of the blogger look out for this type of blogs. I have also seen many blogs using widgets like Top Contributors to award your commenters.

5. Ask for Comments

If nothing works good for you, then this is the ultimate solution for you. And, it will do no harm (at all!). You can add up at the ending of the post--asking for comments, their views and thoughts. But, be aware, ask for comments, not BEG for comments! It is evident that newbies flood their blog  asking for comments.  It is not only   annoying for users, but also degrades your website's reputation and professionalism.

6. Respond to comments

Darren Rowse once said
"One of the most basic skills that any blogger should spend time working on from the very early days is responding to comments on your blog
So , I needn't tell you anything more ah ? You and me are trying to grow our business each day and so we might be busy.Still, Readers are our treasure and it is very important to respond and interact with them.Blogging is more than just about  writing a post. It’s a conversation, discussion and a collaboration. I enjoy reading replies to some of my comments and I’m sure most people out there probably feel the same. So, make it a point to reply to the comments you get and create a discursive community around :)

7. Link to your Archives

This is the most common blunder most bloggers usually do. If your posting frequency is quite high, then your old posts would get covered by the new ones. Hence, if  visitors comes to your website; it would be less likely for them to comment on your old post (as they barely do in the new ones!).
Try to interlink your posts with older posts and use widgets like the archive to expose your old articles.
